Reiki
We all have the power within us to promote health and self improvement in ourselves and in others. The ability to tap into the unseen life force energy which flows through us and causes us to be alive is inherent in us all.
Connecting with the “Life Force Energy” can be a real catalyst for healing.
Reiki is the gentle and powerful Japanese energy healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also has the benefits of promoting self-healing.
Energy Imbalance Promotes Dis-ease
For thousands of years, many ancient cultures including Japanese, Chinese and Indian believed that life force energy flowed through our bodies affecting our physical and emotional states. This energy is referred to as "prana" in India and "chi" in China. The word Reiki (“ray-key”) comes from the Japanese "rei" which means “universal” and "ki" meaning “life force energy”.
This ancient understanding of Life Force Energy remains today:
Modern Physics describes energy fields existing within and around our physical bodies. Energy flows around us and through us nourishing our cells, organs and glands. When there is an imbalance in our energy field, one may be susceptible to or experience dis-ease, manifesting itself as stress, depression, infection, cancer or other physical, emotional or mental discomforts.
Reiki Promotes Balance Through Energy Healing
Energy healing has been around for thousands of years. Reiki, which has also been called hands-on healing or energy work, is a form of energy healing.
If your life force energy is low, then you are more prone to get sick or feel stress. Alternatively, if your life force energy is high, you are more capable of being healthy and peaceful.
Reiki is the Japanese healing art that utilizes hands-on healing to support the normal flow and balance of the human energy field which helps promote the innate healing process. Reiki not only helps to strengthen and restore the body’s own natural ability to heal but is also utilized to support general health and well-being.
One Center client was so moved after a session, she said that Reiki helped her to remember it’s such a natural thing to love and be loved.

How is Reiki Provided?
The person receiving Reiki is fully clothed and may be relaxing on a table, or sitting comfortably in a chair, whichever is most comfortable. The technique is adapatable to any position, or setting, and may be received in any state of health. There is a gentle laying on of hands on a number of specific areas of the body or if requested over a specific area of discomfort or injury.
With stillness and concentration, the practitioner connects with his Life Force Energy which then flows through his hands to the client. The client will receive the amount of energy he needs to bring his body and mind into balance. The innate wisdom of each person’s body uses the energy where it is needed most. Sessions usually last one hour.
What Does Reiki Feel like?
The most common response to a Reiki session is deep relaxation. Quite often the experience is so relaxing that recipients will even fall asleep. Some report that while they may have felt little during a session, later they enjoy a profound sense of calm and peacefulness. Many others report a sense of openness with others, not surprising as the sharing of Life Force Energy is the true experience of Reiki.
Besides the many health benefits, Reiki is also a pleasurable experience as it helps one to let go and be nurtured and cared for by another.

History of Reiki
A Japanese theologian named Dr. Mikao Usui founded the Reiki system of healing energy while on a 21 day meditation retreat in the early 1900s. While Reiki is not a religion, Usui believed that one must live and behave in a way that is harmonious with others. He recommended the following guiding ethical principles to promote peace and harmony that crosses all cultures:
Reiki Principles:
- Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings.
- Just for today I will not worry.
- Just for today I will not be angry.
- Just for today I will do my work honestly.
- Just for today I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.
