"Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion"-Buddha

As a young child, I felt inspired to heal and care for others. Through my own journey this seemingly innate sense transformed into a true understanding of compassion and my desire to understand people and help them find their own way to joy, love and peace.

Often the American system is very "disease" and "symptom" oriented, and the individual person seeking wellness is lost in a process of doling out quick fix "cures" to address only the symptoms of much larger life issues.  My patients count on me to help them find the deeper causes of their mental health challenges, and together we seek long-term wellness.

Good mental health, or the lack of it, is a mystery that countless generations of humans have struggled to understand.  Throughout history, people struggling with mental health issues have been ostracized and mistreated.  The American health care system still profoundly struggles to address the mental health needs of people living in a complex, disconnected and often alienating culture.  I have to wonder....what if mental illness is rarely a biological "condition" but more the result of one's need for assistance in handling the challenges of life?

I have been trained in traditional clinical settings, and certainly understand the value of modern pharmacological treatments.  I do prescribe them when necessary. However, my experiences have also brought me to the conclusion that encountering my patients in a spirit of compassion, understanding and a kind listening ear, can often be the best therapy a person can receive.

In my career, I have been exposed to a myriad of settings: an Intensive Care Unit; a traditional fast paced Psychiatric practice; a rehabilitation center; teaching at a universtiy; and I have established and served patients in a family owned practice as well as my own private practice.  Throughout these experiences, I had the awareness that some of these settings did not allow for the time to really listen and truly connect with patients.

I also hold a foundational belief that the healing process comes about only when the best of traditional and non-traditional methods come together based on an individual's specific need.  I take a holistic approach while carefully considering one's spiritual, physical and emotional health.

A few years ago, I was pleased to learn of the Center for Integrative Health and Healing; it seemed to be such a great match for my desires and philosophy.  My impression of the practice was a place of effective, collaborative efforts by a dedicated corps of wellness professionals.  My impression  was corrrect, and recently I was able to join my efforts with the team.

When I think of the Center's team and the many years of combined experience, I am honored to be part of the collaboration.
