Vibrational Sound Bath and Gong Meditation

Gong Meditation with the added benefits of Acupuncture

Come experience a moving and relaxing vibrational sound bath and gong meditation with Universal Sounds. You can also enhance your relaxing and healing experience with acupuncture offered by the Stram Center's own Rebecca Rice, LAC.

When: Saturday May 18, 2013: two sessions: I: 3:00-4:00pm or II: 4:30-5:30pm

Cost: $20 per person (note this is a small fee increase)
With Acupuncture: $40.

Lyme Support Group

If you or a loved one have been dealing with Lyme disease come join this community support group. This is an opportunity to talk with  others about symptoms, treatments and personal struggles, sharing in a warm and nurturing environment.

Group meets second Tuesday of each month, at our Delmar Office, 388 Kenwood Ave. Please call ahead to confirm meeting is taking place.

Scenar Training Class

Having problems with acute or chronic pain? Recovering from surgery? Suffering from a sport's injury?
Scenar may be right for you. This unique and innovative electro-stimulating device can be learned at home and used as needed. We will show you how.

There are very few trained and certified practitioners of Scenar in upstate New York. Now you can train in Scenar with the Center's  licensed acupuncturists and certified trained, Chris Reilly, L.Ac and Rebecca Rice, L.Ac, who successfully use scenar with their patients.  Chris and Rebcca bring their knowledge, training and experience into their treatment rooms and classes getting the highest therapeutic value possible out of the device and passing this benefit to you.

You can be in charge of your pain, not the other way around.

We wish Jim and Michelle a safe and joyous journey to  Rishikesh, India where they will be at the Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama Ashram for the 2013 Sangha Gathering. Jim and Michelle hope to bring back some of the Himalayan Tradition teachings back to the Stram Center to include them in Yoga and Meditation classes.

Every Wednesday evening,  the Center will offer free guided meditation sessions, led by Jim Whiting, the Center's certified Kripalu Yoga teacher and Michelle Carpenter (see Michelle's brief bio below).

The free meditation sessions are available at The Center to practice and experience the deep state of meditation. These sessions serve as an introduction for beginners as well as a practice for experienced individuals in the cultivation of clarity and mindfulness.

About Michelle:
Michelle is a lifelong resident of the Albany area and an enthusiastic member of the local yoga community who has been practicing since 1988.  She is an adept yoga practitioner with experience in various styles of yoga and meditation techniques including Jivamukti, Bikrim, Kundalini, and Kripalu.  Michelle has studied with renowned teachers Mukunda Stiles, Nishcela Joy Devi, Ray Crist and Sudha/Caroline Lundeen.  Michelle is currently leading and assisting with teaching Shitali Karana and Mantra meditation at the Stram Center for Integrative Medicine. Jim is honored to have her as an assistant.

Reiki Certification Classes

2012 Reiki Certification Class Schedule:

Each class offered is a one day workshop. Each student will be given a course manual and a certificate of completion at the reiki level attended. Classes limited to 8 students.

Reiki I :    Sunday, 9am-3pm. July 28

Reiki II: 
  check soon for a date in September 2013

Reiki III (Practitioner level) : Check soon for our next class scheduled for a date in October, 2013

Reiki Master Level (teacher course): check soon for next class scheduled for April, 2013 (Master Level students must attend Reiki III course or be certified at that level)

Fee
: $150 per class. If taking both the Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher level courses: $275 for both classes.

Classes taught by Center staff, Sue Coughtry, Licensed Massage Therapist and Advanced Reiki Master Teacher and Rebecca Rice, Licensed Acupuncturist and Reiki Master Teacher.

Note: In addition to receiving her Advanced Reiki Master Training from the late Rochelle Brenner in 2000, Sue Coughtry is certified in several Reiki systems at the advanced level including: Tibetan; Seichim; Raku Kei; and Terra Mai Reiki.

Kripalu Yoga Classes

Body Mind Spirit Yoga Classes  begin with  mindful centering through guided breathing exercises and meditation. Seated stretches provide a gentle but thorough warm-up readying students for a natural flow of poses. Classes include a well-rounded variety of yoga postures: standing, seated, kneeling, twists, backbends, supine and inversions. Students are encouraged to listen to and respect the wisdom of their own body.  Appropriate modifications and extensions are offered to ensure your personal experience is both safe and challenging. Each class concludes with deep relaxation and peacrful meditation to leave you feeling renewed and inspired.

Tuesday: 6:30-8:00pm Note: this is a new time change!)
Intermediate Yoga~ discover your possibilites. Good for those with some yoga experience. In this class we explore basic yoga sequences with a focus on breath awareness during longer held postures. This balanced class will leave you feeling awake and alive!

Thursday: 6:30-8:00pm 
Gentle Yoga~ A kind and gentle gift to yourself, good for beginners and those coming back to yoga after a long break or after an injury.  This warm and supportiave class moves at a comfortable pace allowing time to fully enjoy each pose.

Saturday: 9:00-10:30am 
Wake Up Yoga~ A great way to start your weekend. Good for all experience levels. In Wake Up Yoga, we place an emphasis on energizing breath work and sun salutations. This class warms the body and the heart. 

FEES: $15 drop in; $40/3 week session; $72/6 week session

About the Instructor: Jim Whiting is a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor. A lifetime resident of the Albany area, Jim studied Yoga at the Kripalu Center in Massachusetts, meditation and Yoga philosophy at the American Meditation Institute in Averill Park, NY and the psychology of the Bhagavad Gita at the Hindu Temple in Loudonville, NY. Jim has been a practitioner of Yoga, Meditation and Yoga philosophy since 1996. The Center is honored to have Jim teach yoga.
