My Story
The art of healing comes from nature and not from the
physician. Therefore, the physician must start from nature
with an open mind. -Paracelsus (1493-1541) I have always loved connecting with people and supporting them in moving into greater physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and well-being. This choice to support health and happiness led me to the study of psychology an an undergraduate, and to the practices of allopathic and holistic medicine, Reiki healing, life coaching, guided imagery, yoga techniques and philosophy and Japanese style acupuncture. My current practice melds years of personal development and self-healing with these studies. It was through the practice of anesthesiology that I developed my abilities to immediately connect with and care for people during stressful and traumatic events. This love for supporting the spiritual and emotional health of people inspired me to study other forms of healing work. It just so happened that Mary Gallo, the Chief Nurse Anesthetist in the anesthesiology group that I joined right after residency, was a Reiki Master and massage therapist. I trained with Mary and received Reiki certifications in 1996. Mary and I often worked together to provide Reiki healing for patients in both a private practice setting and in the hospital operating rooms. Through teaching Reiki to others I have learned how self-Reiki can help people fall asleep at night, calm them during the day and help relieve suffering. In 1998 I decided to devote my energy full-time to these interests in in natural methods for healing and wellness. In 2002 I studied at the Academy for Coach Training in Bellevue, Washington and became a Certified Professional Coach. Throughout the years I have come to appreciate how nutritious food, vitamins, herbs, supplements, meditation, simple breathing techniques, yoga, exercise, T'ai Chi, acupuncture, Reiki energy healing, other forms of energy medicine, guided imagery, journaling, and simply being listened to and cared for by a health care practitioner can help one feel better. These powerful holistic health care "treatments" complement and enhance other medical therapies such as pharmaceuticals and surgery. As a holistic physician I help my patients navigate this array of modalities so that the natural healing system may function at its best. With this, balance emerges and healing, health and happiness can be experienced in new ways.
It is more important to know what sort of person has a
disease than to know what sort of disease a person has. I do believe that within each of us is a loving and powerful healer, and that the healing journey is a gradual discovery and expression of this Presence, which we experience as love, peace, and happiness. Each person’s natural, innate healing abilities are what allow for the unfolding of greater health. The healing work offers exactly what a person’s system is ready for and is capable of receiving. The innate wisdom, the True Self that exists within every client, is the guiding force, the healer; and this natural healing intelligence always shines forth. It is my intention, whether it be in a personally-focused one-on-one appointment (in person or by phone), or in a group meditation, lecture, or workshop, that whatever is in the highest and greatest good for healing is what is allowed to unfold. I remain in awe as I witness people slowly release their pain and suffering, and begin to experience the gradual emergence of more vibrant health, personal happiness, and Self-love. It is an honor and a privilege to be present to the love and peace that exists within every being and to be witness to each person’s healing process.
